The article is very informative and mind-opening as far as our current inhibitions and aspirations around AI are concerned. In 2035, I see AI moving the human species to another level altogether. Dario tries to explain the fact that AI should be perceived not as a propaganda but more as a deep tool that can shape our future in a much faster way. Not in a sci-fi, fantasy way, but in a practical way.

In the next two years, AI will achieve a state where it will be smarter than Nobel Laureates. It will have a great impact on biology. Dario mentions that 100 years of biological development will be reduced to 5-10 years, and if not sounding too hyped, 1000 years of development. Innovations in the field of genome sequencing, CRISPR, microscopy and many other groundbreaking innovations will be achieved sooner than ever imagined. Even to the extent that humans will be able to achieve doubling their lifespan, achievements that were only dreams.

However, solving inequality and poverty will still be significant challenges that humanity faces. The problem revolves around the accessibility of the technology to parts of the world that are still in dearth of resources, which are still fighting hunger and are merely surviving. Dario himself is sceptical about the possibility of AI solving these social challenges. Corruption and weak institutions are other challenges that are difficult to solve, as these are more guided by human instincts than logic. If the full potential of AI is to be leveraged, humans will have to trust the technology and be progressive, taking everyone together on this journey. Wars and internal conflicts are always imminent, and avoiding these is the biggest challenge. We still see major geopolitical conflicts in the 21st century, such as the Israel-Palestine war, the Russo-Ukraine war and the current trade war that led to wiping out nearly $11 trillion in just two days from the stock market. Such challenges can be solved, but it requires great human sanity and logic, which I think are far-fetched. Even if we start trusting AI, we are talking about 8 billion people thinking in unison, which is nearly impossible. We are not intergalactic species like the Vulcans, we are just humans, informed ones, but not the best when it comes to thinking about the future. I see these technologies revolutionising the human race only if such technologies are in the hands of philanthropists, and that too can’t decide the Utopian society that we are trying to fantasise about in 2025.

It’s not about a fantasy future. It’s about building a good one - carefully, intentionally, and with both eyes open.
